The ultimate in exclusive Thai hideaways and a place of bare foot fantasy, The Rayavadee has been a resting ground for a rich mix of colorful characters, ranging from a-list celebrities, Thai and Hollywood stars right through to political head figures such as Colin Powell. The combination of the Rayavadee’s tight privacy policy and its location within a landlocked lagoon ensure that the facilities and grounds are utilized by in-house guests only thus offering its discerning vacationers the supreme seclusion that they desire.
Guests get a taste of what’s in store merely by arriving at the Naam Mao pier. Met by the stunning turquoise Andaman Sea dotted with tiny limestone islands, the resort owned private air conditioned speed boat bobs around waiting to take a fortunate few away to what can only be described as a tropical paradise. The 7 minute picturesque cruise along the limestone cliff lined coastline can’t fail to get guests in the mood. The arrival point at Naam Mao Bay is simply stunning. Surrounded by limestone cliffs towering out of thick palms, at first glance it’s hard to see any indication of a resort, just a warm Thai smile and a traditional wai at the tip of the boats bow, back dropped by thick jungle.
The Rayavadee grounds consist of seemingly endless dense tropical gardens and a multitude of lotus filled ponds dissected by slim winding foot paths. Set within are three zones peppered with just under a hundred two story sensationally furnished Balinese style pavilions. Within the Nam Mao and Rai Lei zones are the deluxe and spa pavilions. The Phra Nang zone, backs onto what’s been described by many as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches and contains the revitalizing freshwater hydro-pool pavilions.
Resort facilities include, a library with an extensive range of CD’s and DVD’s and LAN internet facilities, a luxury spa offering a complete menu of contemporary and traditional Thai and international treatments, 2 tennis courts (complete with hitting partners), a glass back squash court, fitness centre and a comprehensive range of watersports equipment.
The majority of the resorts facilities are included in the rates with the exception of the spa facilities. The Rayavadee features four restaurants. On the Naam Mao Bay side, the Raya dining room features indoor air conditioned, semi-outdoor and al-fresco dining in an informal yet elegant setting. Serving a delicious mix of Thai and international favorites, this is also the setting for daily breakfast.
Venturing across to the other side of the peninsular, the Krua Phranang Restaurant, complete with sensational sea views at the world famous Phra Nang Beach serves up a concoction of fresh daily caught seafood in combination with an extensive range of imaginative cocktails.
Alternatively, for an even more casual environment, head to the Raitalay Terrace situated next to the resorts huge free form infinity edge swimming pool. Serving food and drinks all day, (in high season, lunch only in the low season) The Terrace makes for a great stop off at any time of the day for a cocktail or a light snack and is a sublime venue to catch the fiery orange sunset that the Andaman coast is famous for.
